Green Features

We have integrated green building practices, experimented with emerging technologies, educated the local community and institutions, and provided meaningful data about green technology implementation. If you have any questions about our systems or would like to schedule a tour of the facilities, please give us a shout! We'd love to show you around.

Water Conservation

55,000 gallons of water are conserved annually through waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets. Six 2,000-gallon CSO tanks contain rainwater, which we use to water our rooftop gardens and flush our toilets. This reduces the volume of water in city sewers and minimizes sewer discharge into waterways during heavy rains.

Hvac

HVAC

A ground source heat pump--part of an open-loop geothermal system-- utilizes the earth’s constant thermal source, which is always 52 degrees.

Saranac Solar

Energy Conservation

Our solar arrays produce enough energy to power 5.5 home annually. Even more importantly, upgrades to LED lights have saved enough energy to power 9.5 homes annually.

Saranac Lobby

Construction

Lumber was purchased locally and is Forest Stewardship Council certified. 90% of construction waste, such as cardboard and scrap wood, was recycled or reused. All building supplies came from a 500-mile radius to reduce carbon missions associated with transportation.

Bluejean Insulation

Insulation

Walls are insulated with post-industrial recycled cotton, left over from blue jean production.
