New Tenant at 19 West
If you venture into the River Park Square Mall this holiday season, you may be surprised to see an old friend in a new setting. Sun People Dry Goods, a locally grown urban homestead and natural living store, has a new kiosk there – an island of sanity in the hubbub. Sun People offers eco-smart products for everyday use, from locally produced honey and green gardening supplies, to organic baby clothes and ecologically-conscious gifts.
Sun People has distingushed itself in the all-consuming battle for shoppers’ attention this Christmas because it’s a “values-driven retail business encouraging effective change at the community level toward greater environmental lifestyle stewardship.” This ethic is spelled out in their mission statement and guides product selection, encouraging consumers to reduce pollution, water-usage and energy waste.
“We really want to bring to Spokane the best green and natural products made in the Pacific Northwest,” explains founder and manager Juliet Sinisterra.
In addition to the holiday kiosk, Sun People is preparing to announce a new, permanent location; they will join the congregation of local businesses at 19 West Main. Once they leave their current space at the Public Market and move in next door to the Saranac, customers will be able to find Sun People’s staples, including organic chicken feed, green cleaning products, and organic mattresses and bedding. They also plan to expand their “Made Regionally” gift section.
Sinisterra feels that moving to Main Street is a crucial step for her enterprise. “There are already so many positive things happening along Main, and we are looking forward to joining the community that is already established and working with them in strengthening a strong, local, living economy for Spokane.”
The new Sun People kiosk at the downtown mall will be open Monday through Saturday 10-8 and Sunday 11-6 during the holidays. Be sure to make a purchase on December 21 and support their “Shop for a Cause” fundraising event.
